Arafat is (still) a terrorist

I just read an article on Ha'aretz that proves once again how much Arafat, the Palestinian leader, is still involved in terrorism.

Although we've been receiving reports for weeks now, this time the evidence has been compiled into a booklet, which includes documents gathered during operation "Defensive Shield", Israel's incursion into Palestinian towns. It also includes testimony from Marwan Barghouti, who directly reported to Arafat and was involved in numerous terrorist attacks.

Arafat personally approved the transfer of funds to suicicide bombers, and hard evidence of close cooperation of Arafat's groups with the Islamic Jihad and Hamas was also found.

Also mentioned in the report is the financial contribution of Saudi Arabia and Iraq to Palestinian terrorism - for example, family of suicide bombers receive $25,000 from Sadam Hussein.

Below I link to the Ha'aretz article and to IDF's (Israel's army) website. All documents have also been published by the IDF.

'Arafat File,' shows PA leader's direct terror involvement
By Daniel Sobelman, Ha'aretz Correspondent

Likud Minister Dani Naveh on Sunday presented what is being called the "Arafat File" a report prepared by a committee he headed and which Israel says contains evidence linking Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to terror attacks. According to the report, presented by Naveh at a press conference, Arafat, along with other Palestinian Authority officials, was directly involved in financing terror attacks.

The report was based mainly on Israeli intelligence, documents confiscated during "Operation Defensive Shield" and information gathered during General Security Services (GSS) interrogations.

Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti and Palestinian Intelligence chief Tufeik Tirawi, were also mentioned in the report as being directly involved in terror attacks against Israel. Naveh said that the report found that "the supreme commander of the Al Aqsa Brigades is Arafat."

The report reveals an attempt by Arafat's bureau to recruit Israeli Arabs for terror attacks inside Israel, and asserts that money given to the PA by donor states was used to finance terror attacks.

Asked about corruption amongst high-ranking Palestinian officials, Naveh related an incident when agricultural supplies, transferred from Israel to the PA as part of a humanitarian aide package, were eventually sold back to Israel and the profits were pocketed by the officials.

Naveh said that the report also contained information describing incidents of physical abuse against the Christian population in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, which were perpetrated by Palestinians with the full support of PA officials.

Naveh stressed that the report's findings were not political, but were "professional" findings gathered by IDF intelligence, the GSS and other security services. Naveh described the report as an important tool which Prime Minister Ariel Sharon can present before Congress and U.S. officials during his visit to Washington this week.

The report, Naveh insisted, graphically illustrated the fact that Arafat could not be considered a peace partner.

The report also makes mention of the involvement of several Arab states in terror. These include Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and Syria.

According to the report, Saudi Arabia has systematically transferred money to families of suicide bombers. The report also contains letters of gratitude written to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein for his country's financial aide to the PA.
