Attack on a Canadian Synagogue
Just found this article on Ha'Aretz (www.haaretzdaily.com) about an attack on a Synagogue in Quebec City, Canada.
"A pre-dawn explosion Sunday at the only synagogue in Quebec City damaged the front door and shattered glass, but caused no injuries, police said"
I hope Quebec is not going to follow in the footsteps of her big Sister, France, where anti-Semitism events are almost a daily occurence.
I copy the full article below.
Explosion damages Canadian synogogue in Quebec; no injuries
QUEBEC CITY - A pre-dawn explosion Sunday at the only synagogue in Quebec City damaged the front door and shattered glass, but caused no injuries, police said.
One man was arrested in connection with the blast apparently caused by an incendiary device at the vacant synagogue in the capital of Quebec, Canada's Francophone province, according to police.
Quebec Premier Bernard Landry called the province's Canadian Jewish Congress to express his distress and offer help.
Noting that anti-Semitic acts have occurred recently in France, Canadian Jewish Congress leader Joseph Gabay said Quebecers should resist having similar attacks in their province.
"This is more threatening because it defies the zero tolerance that we have here in Quebec toward all acts of violence," Gabay said. "This is one everyone should condemn. Quebec citizens should be aware of the dangers of these things."
The explosion was the latest in a series of attacks on synagogues in Canada this year, including a fire at a downtown Toronto synagogue that damaged 2,000 religious texts, some dating to the 1860s. No injuries have been reported.

I'm afraid Quebec does have a long history of anti-semitism. Its indepedent/sovereigntist wing are staunch supporters of Palestine. Two of their leaders - Andre Boisclair and Gilles Duceppe - attended a rally that was under the guise of supporting Lebanon but was as much a rally for Hezbollah. The people condemn this cowardly act as did the government under Jean Charest. However, more must be done.
